The Im Insengrind school complex is located in the heart of the Unteraffoltern area. As a public building, the new secondary school will occupy the last available plot in the area and thus complete the Unteraffoltern urban master plan project. In the foreground, there is the confrontation with the visions of modernism of the 1960s. The entire quarter appears as a separate unit and has a recognizable spatial identity. In a generous park landscape, the buildings are subordinated to a clear system of order. At the interface between the neighborhood and the school complex, the new secondary school building connects the existing school complex and the surrounding area and at the same time distinguishes itself as an independent and contemporary building. The character of the new building refers to the existing architectural features that strongly characterize the area. The first floor offers the highest degree of accessibility to the public and is open and permeable. A concrete structure forms the primary building system and allows a flexible layout for the schoolrooms. The double sports hall is situated underground, while the main school uses are housed in the above-ground volume. The school building is designed as a hybrid reinforced concrete and timber construction.
